Name: Anne Hamilton
How long have you been training with Paramount Fitness?
I’ve been training now for just over a year.
What Programme are you signed up to?
After doing Bootcamp for a year, I have very recently changed to Small Group PT.
Before starting with Paramount Fitness, describe your state of health, fitness and general well-being.
Before joining, my exercise regime was no more than getting out of bed or pulling the cork from a bottle of wine! I was in a delusional state of ‘well I’m not that big’, trying to eat well during the week, then blowing it all at the weekend on take-aways and alcohol. I was going to Weight Watchers and got to target, but still didn’t really feel that great about myself.
What was the pivotal point which made you get in contact with Paramount Fitness?
I returned from my summer holidays last year having made the decision to leave my partner – a real light-bulb moment! Part of this whole change was my need to regain control of my life and do something for me. One of my colleagues (Alison Pierce) had been going to PF and was getting amazing results, so it was a no-brainer on who to go to for results.
What were your goals back then?
Just to get through each Bootcamp session! I wanted to improve my fitness, and as an older Mum, still want to be able to run around with my daughter and set her a good example for a healthy lifestyle.
How did you feel after your first training session?
Knackered, followed by a great feeling of euphoria – I had swung my first kettlebell and managed not to hit anyone with it – I was still alive! Then by the end of the day the stiffness and muscle pain set in, and basic tasks like getting out of bed and sitting on a chair became my new challenges – scared to go to the toilet because you know if you make it onto the seat, you might not be able to get back up again.
What have you achieved to date?
So far, I’ve managed to shed 4-5kgs, which isn’t a huge amount of weight – I know it’s not about the weight, however I have dropped a dress size or two and can get into clothes I haven’t been able to wear since before I had my daughter. It has also been nice giving to charity-shops the clothes that are now too big for me. It did take me a while to settle into the routine of the eating plan – I won’t lie, I enjoy pizza and wine far too much, so I didn’t start to see the results as quickly as I could have. The first seminar (which PF run Quarterly) I attended in February gave me the kick up the backside that I needed and refocused me a lot. With the support of Lee, Corey and Dan, I have totally changed my everyday routine – all products that I put on my skin are now paraben free, water filter is installed on the shower, and as most people know, I rattle when I walk with all the supplements I now take.
I feel healthier and stronger, both physically and mentally, and know I can achieve more on small group PT.
What emotional boundaries have you had to overcome, which have been tough, but you knew you had to, to get the results you wanted?
Drastically changing my carb filled diet has been hard, and at times still is. But like any eating plan, it just requires willpower and planning – and most days I manage both!
Why were achieving the above results so important to you?
I needed a new challenge and something that belonged to me, and when the results started to show, it was easier to keep going. The compliments from other people help too. I have already been mistaken for my daughters grandmother, so I don’t want to be one of those Mum’s outside the school gates who looks 50 when she’s only 40 and has ‘let herself go’. I am proud of my achievements, it’s taken hard work and commitment to get there!
What are the best things about training with Paramount Fitness?
We’ve all done exercise classes, played sports and maybe personal training over the years, but what make PF different is that apart from getting results, it’s the whole exercise, nutrition and lifestyle package – something you don’t get at David Lloyd or Virgin. What I have learnt is that you don’t need an air-conditioned room with a beautifully fitted wooden floor and mirrors on all the walls to get great results. The PF team are experts in their field, take a personal interest in your achievements and no question is too daft.
What are your goals now, moving forward?
Winning the lottery, and having just moved from Bootcamp to Small Group PT, I want to see what more I can achieve and how much more my old body can take – I want to tone up more and tighten the slack!
If you could sum up your experience of training with Paramount Fitness to date in under 50 words, what would you say?
A great training environment with expert trainers, and a bunch of remarkable and committed trainees. Each class is as challenging as you want to make it and always different. It’s a very social crowd, both in training and through Facebook.
